Author's Note:
The backbeat is the accent on the second and fourth beats of a measure, most commonly played on the snare drum by drummers. It serves as the foundation for rhythms found in a wide range of contemporary musical styles. Musical genres such as pop, rock, funk, R&B, blues, and others differ in their pulse, stylistic elements, and interpretation, but the backbeat is the unifying element that connects them.
